Limit Medicaid Abortion Funding Bill
Official: No Abortion Coverage for Medicaid Act
This bill aims to restrict Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program funding for abortions, ensuring that federal money does not cover these services, except in specific cases. It is important because it affects how states can use federal funds for reproductive health services.
No Abortion Coverage for Medicaid Act This bill prohibits the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services from approving experimental, pilot, or demonstration projects under Medicaid (also known as Section 1115 Demonstrations) if the project provides federal financial assistance for abortions or for health benefits that include abortions, including expenses for related travel or lodging. The bill's restrictions do not apply to abortions in the cases of rape or incest; treatments to address life-threatening physical disorders, injuries, or illnesses; or treatments for miscarriages or ectopic pregnancies.
1. This bill stops Medicaid from funding any abortion services or related expenses. 2. It prohibits states from using federal funds for abortion through demonstration projects. 3. Exceptions are allowed for abortions in cases of rape, incest, or serious health risks. 4. The bill reinforces existing laws that limit federal funding for abortions.
