Access to OB-GYN Care for Female Prisoners
Official: Ensuring OB–GYN Care in Prisons Act
This bill ensures that female prisoners have access to necessary OB-GYN care, including exams and treatments, which is important for their health and well-being.
1. This bill requires prisons to hire at least one obstetrician-gynecologist for female inmates. 2. Female prisoners must have an initial visit with an OB-GYN within 14 days of incarceration. 3. OB-GYNs will provide services like menstrual care, cancer screenings, and prenatal care. 4. Prisoners will have the right to informed consent and can refuse non-emergency care. 5. Prisons must report on OB-GYN employment and any vacancies annually.
Female prisoners in federal correctional facilities will benefit from improved medical care.
