Golden Thirteen Congressional Gold Medal Act This bill provides for the posthumous award of a Congressional Gold Medal to the Golden Thirteen (i. e., the first 13 Black officers in the U.S. Navy), in recognition of their contributions to the country.
1. This bill awards a gold medal to the Golden Thirteen for their contributions to the Navy. 2. The medal will be presented posthumously to honor the 16 Black men who trained as Navy officers in 1944. 3. The gold medal will be displayed at the Smithsonian Institution for public viewing and research. 4. The Secretary of the Treasury will design and create the medal with appropriate symbols. 5. Duplicate bronze medals may be sold to cover production costs.
