Waiving Matching Funds for Crop Research
Official: To amend the Agricultural Research, Extension, and Education Reform Act of 1998 to authorize the Secretary of Agriculture to waive the matching funds requirement under the specialty crop research initiative, and for other purposes.
This bill lets the Secretary of Agriculture skip the requirement for matching funds on some crop research grants. This change helps more organizations get funding for important agricultural research.
This bill authorizes the Department of Agriculture to waive the matching funds requirement for grants under the Specialty Crop Research Initiative. Currently, entities that receive grants under the initiative must provide nonfederal matching funds (including funds from an agricultural promotion, research, and information program) equal to not less than the amount of the grant.
1. This bill allows the Secretary of Agriculture to waive matching funds for certain grants. 2. It specifically applies to grants under the specialty crop research initiative. 3. The waiver can be used for grants awarded after the bill is enacted. 4. This change aims to make it easier for organizations to receive funding. 5. It encourages more research in specialty crops without financial barriers.
Farmers and researchers working on specialty crops will benefit from easier access to funding.
