Setting Consumer Standards for Lithium-Ion Batteries Act This bill requires the Consumer Product Safety Commission to issue a final consumer product safety rule for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries used in micromobility devices, such as electric bikes and electric scooters. Specifically, the rule must require manufacturers and distributors of such products to comply with the applicable safety standards jointly established by the American National Standards Institute, the Standards Council of Canada, and UL Solutions Inc.
1. This bill requires safety standards for lithium-ion batteries used in certain consumer products. 2. The Consumer Product Safety Commission must create these standards within 180 days of the bill's passage. 3. If safety standards are updated in the future, the Commission will automatically adopt them unless they find them unsafe. 4. The Commission must report to Congress on hazards related to these batteries within five years. 5. The report will include details about incidents involving fires or explosions linked to lithium-ion batteries.
