Federal Officers Can Buy Retired Guns
Official: Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act of 2025
This bill allows federal law enforcement officers to buy their retired service weapons from their agencies. Officers can make these purchases within six months of the firearm being retired and must be in good standing with their agency.
Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act This bill directs the General Services Administration to establish a program under which a federal law enforcement officer may purchase a retired firearm from the agency that issued the firearm to the officer.
1. Federal law enforcement officers must purchase the retired firearm at its salvage value, which reflects the gun's age and condition. 2. The program to facilitate these purchases must be established within one year after the bill is enacted. 3. The definition of a retired firearm includes any weapon declared surplus by the federal agency that issued it.
