This bill requires the Attorney General to add a new data field in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System to show if a missing person's last known location was on Federal land.
Tracking and Reporting Absent Community-Members Everywhere Act or the TRACE Act This bill requires the National Institute of Justice to include in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (Nam Us) an additional data field for information about whether the last known location of a missing person was on federal land or in the territorial waters of the United States. Nam Us is a national information clearinghouse and resource center for cases involving missing persons and unidentified or unclaimed remains.
1. The new data field will specify whether the location was confirmed or suspected to be on Federal land. 2. The Attorney General must provide annual reports starting January 15 of the second year after the bill is enacted, detailing cases linked to Federal land. 3. Federal land includes areas managed by the Departments of Agriculture, Interior, and Defense, excluding land held in trust for Indian Tribes.
Families and communities of missing persons who may have last been seen on Federal land.
