Why This Matters

This bill requires the Small Business Administration's office for veteran-owned businesses to set up procedures so it actually follows reporting rules Congress passed in 1999, responding to recommendations from the Government Accountability Office, Congress's watchdog.

If you are a veteran running a small business, Congress would get more consistent information on how well the agency's programs serve you, starting within 60 days.
Who this affects
Veteran small business owners · Service-disabled veteran entrepreneurs · Small Business Administration staff
What changes is this bill making?
  1. 1Within 60 days of becoming law, the Small Business Administration's top veterans business official must create and put in place written policies to meet the requirements.
  2. 2The rules come from a 1999 veterans small business law that requires the agency to track and report on veterans' participation in its programs.
  3. 3The bill adds no new funding, programs, or loans; it only directs the agency to meet duties already in existing law.
Read the detailed summary

Ensuring SBA Implementation of GAO Recommendations Act of 2026This bill requires the Office of Veterans Business Development within the Small Business Administration (SBA) to develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with existing reporting requirements related to veteran-owned small businesses. Specifically, such policies must ensure the SBA complies and submits an annual report on the needs of small businesses owned and controlled by veterans, including service-disabled veterans. Such reports must also include proposals to improve the access of such businesses to government assistance.
