Why This Matters

This bill exempts securities issued by the International Development Association from certain U.S. securities laws, making it easier for them to operate financially.

If you invest in World Bank securities, this bill allows them to operate with fewer regulations starting 30 days after it passes.

What changes is this bill making?
  1. 1This bill allows securities from the International Development Association to be treated like those from other multilateral development banks.
  2. 2The Securities and Exchange Commission will still require annual reports about these securities to protect investors.
  3. 3The exemption can be suspended if the International Development Association supports countries involved in international terrorism.
  4. 4The law will take effect 30 days after it is signed unless certain conditions are met.
Read the detailed summary

Aligning SEC Regulations for the World Bank's International Development Association Act This bill exempts from securities regulations any securities issued by the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank. The association provides loans and grants to developing countries. The Securities and Exchange Commission may suspend this exemption at any time. The bill does not apply if, before the bill's date of enactment, the Department of the Treasury reports that IDA is providing financial support to a country whose government has repeatedly provided support for acts of international terrorism, as determined by the Department of State.
