What changes is this bill making?

1Tribal officers from tribes with contracts under the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (IDEAA) can enforce federal law on their lands if they complete comparable training, pass background checks, and receive federal certification.
2Tribal departments must adopt policies and procedures that meet or exceed those of the Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Justice Services.
3While under federal authority, certified tribal officers are treated as federal law enforcement for certain criminal statutes, tort claims, and retirement benefits.
4The Interior Department Secretary must develop credentialing procedures within two years and issue guidance on voluntary participation, service credit, grant-funded salaries, and retirement ages.
5Tribal officers may substitute state or equivalent training by completing an Indian Police Academy bridge program before certification.
6The Attorney General must coordinate Department of Justice (DOJ) activities for public safety in Indian communities, including reports to Congress, training programs, operational plans, and data collection.
