Why This Matters

This resolution would cancel an Environmental Protection Agency rule that delayed when companies must start reporting PFAS they made or imported, often called 'forever chemicals.' The earlier schedule it replaced has already run out, so the effect on reporting dates is unclear.

If you worry about forever chemicals in your water, this would undo a delay in federal reporting on which companies made or imported them since 2011.
Who this affects
PFAS chemical manufacturers · Importers of PFAS products · Communities with PFAS contamination
What does this resolution do?
  1. 1The Environmental Protection Agency rule pushed the start of PFAS reporting back to January 31, 2027, or earlier if the agency finalizes changes to the reporting rule, and this resolution would cancel that delay.
  2. 2Without the delay, the earlier schedule would apply: a reporting window from April 13 to October 13, 2026 (April 13, 2027 for small businesses that only import products containing PFAS), which has mostly passed.
  3. 3Companies that made or imported PFAS chemicals, including PFAS inside imported products, since 2011 would face reporting duties to the agency sooner.
  4. 4Under the Congressional Review Act, the agency could not issue a substantially similar delay later unless Congress passes a new law allowing it.
