A Strong Leader for a Stronger Nebraska.

As a rural Nebraska cattle rancher and a mother of three, Deb is as Nebraskan as they come. After a 35-year career in agriculture, education, and public service, Deb was elected in 2012 as the first woman to represent Nebraska for a full-term in the U.S. Senate. A prominent member of numerous committees in the Senate, Fischer has worked hard to take care of both rural and urban communities, strengthen our military, and invest in public infrastructure for all Nebraskans.

Meet Deb

A lifelong Nebraskan, Deb Fischer is committed to hard work, common sense solutions, and the Nebraska way of life. As Nebraska’s senior senator, Deb has the privilege of working for you in the U.S. Senate. She believes the first priority of the federal government is a robust national defense.

As a Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and, more specifically, Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Strategic Forces, Deb oversees policies related to U.S. Strategic Command and U.S. Space Command, our nuclear arsenal, and missile defense. She is committed to ensuring our men and women in uniform have the resources they need to fulfill their missions around the world.

As a member of the critical Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, Deb is also working with her Senate colleagues to craft the next Farm Bill to give Nebraskans a voice and ensure crop insurance is protected. Deb is a cattle rancher with more than 50 years of first-hand experience fighting to ensure that Nebraska’s farmers and ranchers have the tools and resources they need to continue feeding the world.

A Passion for Transportation

Transportation has been a lifelong passion for Deb. She passed landmark legislation as a state senator, LB 84 the Build Nebraska Act, which provided needed funding for road construction throughout the state – all without raising taxes. Now as a member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, Deb continues to be a leading voice for modernizing our nation’s infrastructure. She remains particularly focused on improving our roads, rebuilding crumbling bridges, and expanding quality broadband access across rural and urban communities.

Delivering for Nebraska Families

Deb recently joined the Senate Appropriations Committee. Her role on this committee will give Nebraskans a greater voice on the federal government’s spending priorities. She is committed to working with her Republican colleagues to rein in out-of-control spending and get our fiscal house in order.

She is also working hard to ensure all Nebraskans have opportunities for good paying jobs to support themselves and their families. Deb has led the way in promoting innovation, regulatory reform, and job creation here at home.

Born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska, Deb graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she met her husband of 50 years, Bruce. Deb and Bruce own a ranching operation near Valentine, where they raised their three sons. Before her election to the U.S. Senate, Deb was an active leader in her community for decades on a range of issues, including education. She served 8 years in the Nebraska Legislature, where she chaired the Committee on Transportation and Telecommunications.
