About Adam
Adam Hamilton is a fifth-generation Kansan, a pastor, an author, and a candidate for the United States Senate. His family's roots in the state run nearly 150 years deep. His great-great-grandparents settled in Dickinson County in the 1870s, farming and helping build the small towns of Hope and Elmo, and his mother's family came to Wichita through the aerospace industry, where his grandfather went on to fly for the airline that became TWA. Adam grew up in the suburbs of Kansas City and met his high school sweetheart, LaVon, as a teenager. They have been married for more than 40 years and have two daughters and a granddaughter.
Church of the Resurrection
In 1990, at age 25, Adam and LaVon started the Church of the Resurrection with four people and a dream. Over the next 36 years it grew into the largest United Methodist congregation in the United States, with roughly 24,000 members. Nearly equal parts Republicans, Democrats, and independents, their church has learned to serve and care for one another because of their differences, not in spite of them. Under his leadership the church has given away tens of millions of dollars, supported local schools, provided beds to children in need, sent mobile food pantries into food deserts, and built a dental clinic that reaches children who would otherwise go without care.
Listening tour
For more than three decades, Adam has spent his life listening to people, caring for them, and bringing together Kansans who don't always agree. Troubled by the polarization and dysfunction pulling the country apart, and by decisions he believes are making life harder for ordinary Kansans, he set out on a listening tour in communities across our state. Farmers, ranchers, teachers, and small-business owners all shared how they are being squeezed by the rising cost of groceries, fuel, and health care. What they said convinced him that Kansas needs new leadership in Washington. Time and again, from Republicans and Democrats all across the state, he heard the same thing: they feel our leaders aren't listening, and they believe we can do better.
Campaign message
Adam believes we can and must do better. He is running as an independent-minded Democrat committed to putting service above self, country before party, and people over politics. His campaign is built on a simple conviction: that Kansans of any party can work together to solve real problems, and that mutual respect and hope can once again be our common language.
U.S. Senators write and vote on federal laws. Each state has two senators, who serve six-year terms. Only the Senate confirms the President's nominees for judges and the cabinet, approves treaties, and holds impeachment trials.
