About Wilneida Negron

Why I'm Running

I grew up in a working-class, immigrant, and small-business owning family — learning early what it means when systems are not built for you.

For twenty years, I’ve worked across government, labor, technology, and markets — helping people navigate broken systems, shaping policy, and bringing people together to solve problems before institutions catch up.

What made me run is this community. Not Manhattan the brand, but the people who make it extraordinary — creative, resilient, caring, and constantly showing up for one another.

NY-12 sits at the center of finance, media, technology, and culture. We can use that platform to demand something better: government that values people over power and is ready to meet the future.

That is why I’m running. Not politics as usual. Something more human, useful, and accountable.

Building What Comes Next

I’ve never run for office before. I’ve spent my career doing the work.

I began on the front lines as a crisis counselor, helping young people, families, survivors, and seniors navigate systems that were failing them. Since then, I’ve spent two decades working across government, labor, technology, and financial markets.

I’ve helped workers and unions win protections, advised federal leaders, shaped policy on AI, wage theft, privacy, and corporate accountability, and convened people around emerging challenges before they become tomorrow’s crises.

I know how institutions work, where they fail, and how to push them to do better.

That is the experience I want to bring to Congress.

About Me

I was born from the kind of New York story this district used to make possible. My mother came from the Dominican Republic. My father came from Puerto Rico. They met, fell in love, in NY-12 and built a life through hard work, sacrifice, and the belief that their children could have more opportunities than they did.

I grew up around small businesses and working families. I learned early what it means to stretch a paycheck, worry about bills, care for family, and do whatever it takes to keep moving forward.

My career began on the front lines of public service—in juvenile detention centers, jails, senior centers, legal aid programs, crisis counseling initiatives, and community organizations across New York City. I helped families navigate schools, healthcare, housing, immigration, courts, and work. I saw firsthand how often people struggle not because they failed, but because the systems around them failed them.

That experience shaped everything that came after.

So I spent twenty years building better systems. Not from the outside looking in — from inside government, inside markets, inside the rooms where the rules actually get written. I've developed regulatory frameworks used by federal agencies, built worker protections that didn't exist before, and served as an external advisor to two Democratic presidential administrations. I wrote a book about what technology is doing to workers.

I built the Worker Technology Rights Framework — protections that give workers the right to know when software is evaluating them and the right to contest it. I was paying attention to workers before they became a headline. That is what I am bringing to Congress.

Life in NY-12 Now

Today I'm raising two children in District 12 public schools. You'll often find me walking through the neighborhood, spending time in Central Park with my family, talking with neighbors, or supporting local community organizations.

This district helped make my family's story possible. My work has been dedicated to helping ensure it remains a place where future generations can build lives of dignity, opportunity, and belonging. That is why I am running. Not because it is the next step in a political career — I don't have one. But because twenty years of this work taught me what is at stake here, and I believe the people of this district deserve a representative who was built by this community rather than selected for it.

What Public Service Taught Me

Those years taught me that fixing broken systems requires two things above all: integrity and competence.

Integrity means drawing clear lines against corruption and abuse.

Competence means building systems that are designed and implemented to actually work.

Progress doesn’t come from performance or purity tests. It comes from building across differences and doing the work of execution.

They also taught me that progress doesn’t come from purity tests or performance. It comes from building across difference and doing the hard work of execution.
