About Michaela Barnett

Meet Michaela Barnett

Michaela Barnett is not working for corporate interests, the political establishment, or personal gain.

Michaela is working for East Tennessee.

Michaela Barnett is an engineer, small business owner, and spent the last year working in Congress. And there, she saw what many of us feel in East Tennessee.

Congress is not working for us.

Gas prices are soaring, groceries cost too much, and rents are out of control all across East Tennessee. Washington insiders on both sides of the aisle aren't working to make our lives better — they're waiting it out.

That’s not how we build the future that we deserve.

Speaking out is important, but Michaela knows that we can't just be a voice in opposition — we have to show the American people our vision for the future, our plan for how we're going to achieve it, and fight for it with all our might. That's why Michaela is running to serve the people of East Tennessee.

Michaela Barnett grew up learning the value of hard work, doing barn chores before and after school on her family’s horse farm.

In college, Michaela started a campus-wide composting program and worked at a local farm to learn and help pay for school.

As an AmeriCorps member, she launched three programs at UT that are still thriving.

While getting her doctorate in Civil Engineering, Michaela built a small business in Knox county, creating jobs, helping other Tennessee small businesses, and serving thousands of East Tennesseans.

Then, Michaela went to work in Congress as a science policy fellow, where she saw firsthand how our leaders in DC were failing East Tennessee.

Michaela Barnett knows firsthand what it means to make payroll, take care of the land, and work hard all day, every day.

Now she’s ready to fight for you, so that East Tennesseans have a representative that works as hard as they do.

The problems we are facing are huge and overwhelming.

But they are not unsolvable.

A better future is possible - but we can't just hope for it. We have to work for it.

Let's put hope to work.
