Meet Berney Flowers
Meet Bernard “Berney” Flowers — a veteran, husband, father, public servant, author, and proud Marylander who has dedicated his life to defending the American way.
Berney’s journey began with nearly 21 years of honorable service in the U.S. Air Force, where he was stationed at the Pentagon during the September 11 attacks and deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine, and beyond. His global experience—spanning 22 countries and 43 states—shaped his deep understanding of leadership, resilience, and service.
After retiring from active duty, Berney transitioned to the private sector as a project manager in banking, but his commitment to national security brought him back to the Department of Defense. There, he helped launch U.S. Cyber Command and later served as Senior Technical Advisor for NORAD & U.S. Northern Command at Fort Meade. His final mission before retiring from the DoD involved coordinating refugee resettlement efforts for Afghans, Haitians, and undocumented migrants along the U.S. Southwest Border.
In 2021, Berney was appointed by Maryland’s Governor to the District 9 Judicial Nominating Commission in Howard County, continuing his service to the state and its citizens.
Berney is also a published author of Black Values Matter, a thought-provoking book offering bold solutions for Baltimore and Black America. He hosts the podcast The Loyal Opposition, where he and his team tackle pressing issues with honesty, insight, and a commitment to truth.
Berney Flowers is a Republican who proudly stands in the tradition of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass—the party that fought to free his enslaved ancestors and preserve the Union. His campaign is about restoring integrity, empowering communities, and ensuring that every Marylander has a voice in shaping the future.
Berney is a proud husband of over 36 years, a father of two successful young adult children, a father-in-law and a new grandfather. He volunteers locally and is a mentor to many. He enjoys traveling, gardening and entertaining friends.
Members of the U.S. House of Representatives write and vote on federal laws, including the federal budget. Each represents one district and serves a two-year term. Tax bills must start in the House, only the House can impeach federal officials, and members oversee federal agencies through their committees.
