About Jeremy Moss

A Product of Oakland County

Jeremy is a lifelong resident of Oakland County. He was raised here, educated here, and developed an early passion for serving the communities that shaped him.

A Groves High School graduate, he went on to study at Michigan State University, where he participated in several student-led humanitarian aid missions – helping Hurricane Katrina-ravaged New Orleans recover, building homes in impoverished areas of South America, and providing care for orphans in the impact of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in South Africa.

He then dove right into public service working under the mentorship of then-Southfield Mayor and future Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence. In 2011, voters in his hometown elected him to the Southfield City Council, becoming its youngest-ever member and ushering in a new era of economic and neighborhood growth. Jeremy has since represented hundreds of thousands of Oakland County residents in the 11th Congressional District, focusing on the needs of Michigan families.

An Effective Lawmaker

Jeremy was first elected to the Michigan Legislature in 2015, ascending to leadership in both the State House and Senate. He led the successful campaign in 2022 to flip the Michigan Senate to a Democratic majority for the first time in 40 years.

As President Pro Tem of the Senate, he passed landmark legislation, including restoring labor rights, passing the first gun safety laws in a generation, making the workplace safer and housing more secure, protecting abortion rights, and creating a plan for cleaner air and water. In 2023, he sponsored the most bills signed into law of all State Legislators.

While unelected billionaires in DC play games with our economy, Jeremy returned a billion dollars to Michigan taxpayers by repealing Republican taxes on seniors and expanding tax credits to working families. At this moment with everything at stake, Oakland County needs a tested leader to deliver real results for those who need it most.

A Proven Fighter

Jeremy champions bold policies and confronts harmful ones. When members of his City Council said he was too young to govern in the post-Great Recession recovery, he led the charge to redevelop and grow his hometown. When Republican leaders in the Legislature blocked access to government records, Jeremy built a bipartisan coalition to push for greater transparency in Lansing. When a far-right State Representative announced plans to re-ban same-sex marriage, Jeremy showed up to his press conference and took it over.

This is the leadership we need at this moment with looming threats to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, the Department of Education, and much more. Jeremy’s guiding principle is making government work for the people it serves because Michigan families get hurt when they’re left out. Our government can do better, and Jeremy will fight for it.

Role Summary: State Senator

State senators write and vote on state laws and the state budget, and in most states they also confirm the Governor's appointments. In most states the senate is the smaller of the legislature's two chambers, with larger districts and longer terms than the house.
