About Lisa
I am Lisa Murkowski, a third-generation Alaskan born in Ketchikan and raised with my five siblings in Wrangell, Juneau and Fairbanks. I currently live in Anchorage where I met my husband Verne and where we raised our two incredible sons, Nic and Matt. Living in so many diverse communities around the state has afforded me the opportunity to know and love Alaska for its many landscapes, industries, cultures and people.
I’ve had the honor and privilege of serving Alaska in the U.S. Senate since 2002. Every day, I use my seniority, clout, and bipartisan relationships to advance and secure policy victories that benefit our state. As an Appropriator, the former Chairman of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee (and still its longest-serving Republican member), and Vice Chairman of the Indian Affairs Committee, I fight for all Alaskans by working across the aisle – and with all Presidents – to ensure Alaska can develop in a responsible, forward-looking way that provides opportunity now and for generations to come. That’s my mission and a commitment I’ll continue to relentlessly pursue.
Alaska is important to me because it’s my home, and because it’s yours. I’m proud of the work that we have accomplished – from authoring and passing the most significant infrastructure law in U.S. history, delivering much-needed relief and critical funding to hardworking Alaska families and businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, and basing our nation’s F-35 fighter jets at Eielson AFB, to supporting responsible resource development and renewable energy, and tapping into innovative and entrepreneurial opportunities to create jobs at home for current and future generations. Alaskans have always accomplished difficult things by working together. The last few years have proven our resiliency time and time again.
I am honored to serve you in the U.S. Senate and humbly ask for your support in this upcoming election. Our work for Alaska is not finished. That is why I am asking for the opportunity to continue to work tirelessly for you and for this state. I look forward to earning your vote while out on the campaign trail in 2022.
Members of the Senate are responsible for introducing and voting on federal legislation, representing their state, and providing a check on executive power. Key powers include confirming presidential appointments, ratifying treaties, serving on committees, shaping the federal budget, and conducting impeachment trials. Each senator serves a six-year term and represents their entire state.
