Congressman Mike Lawler proudly represents New York’s 17th Congressional District, just north of New York City, which includes all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties. A lifelong Hudson Valley resident and former State Assemblyman, Congressman Lawler is widely recognized for his bipartisan, common-sense approach to legislating.

In his second term as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Congressman Lawler serves on the House Financial Services Committee, where he is Vice Chair of Communications, and the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where he chairs the Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

In the 118th Congress, Congressman Lawler introduced 58 bills, 7 of which passed the House, and 1 became law. Additionally, 5 of his bills were incorporated into broader legislative packages that were signed into law, including:

H.R. 9106, Enhanced Presidential Security Act of 2024 (standalone law),

H.R. 3099, Special Envoy for the Abraham Accords Act,

H.R. 3774, Stop Harboring Iranian Petroleum (SHIP) Act,

H.R. 5923, Iran-China Energy Sanctions Act,

H.R. 7040, Undetectable Firearms Reauthorization Act, and

H.R. 9437, Partners in Diplomacy Act.

Congressman Lawler was rated the most effective freshman lawmaker in the 118th Congress and ranked 8th overall, surpassing dozens of senior members and committee chairs. His district office has successfully closed thousands of constituent casework cases, securing critical assistance and resources for families across the Hudson Valley.

As a leading member of the bipartisan SALT Caucus, Congressman Lawler secured a historic expansion of the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction cap, raising it from $10,000 to $40,000 for families earning up to $500,000, with a 1% annual inflation adjustment. This provision, included in the One Big Beautiful Bill and signed into law in 2025, delivers meaningful relief to middle-class New Yorkers and small businesses in high-cost areas like the Hudson Valley.

Congressman Lawler holds leadership roles as Co-Chair of the Moldova Caucus, Anti-Congestion Tax Caucus, Appalachian National Scenic Trail Caucus, and the Extreme Heat Caucus.

Additionally, he is an active member of over 50 bipartisan caucuses spanning issues from SALT tax reform and global investment to law enforcement, education innovation, climate solutions, and international partnerships, including the Abraham Accords Caucus and the House Republican Israel Caucus.

Prior to serving in Congress, Congressman Lawler represented New York’s 97th District in the State Assembly, where he served on the Committees on Aging, Banks, Education, Housing, and as Ranking Member on Governmental Operations. In just one term, he passed more bills than any other member of his conference, securing bipartisan victories on public safety funding, middle-class tax relief, and historic increases in school aid.

Earlier in his career, Mike served as Deputy Town Supervisor of Orangetown, Senior Advisor to the Westchester County Executive, and as Executive Director of the New York State Republican Party. He also founded a successful government affairs and public relations firm.

Congressman Lawler is a graduate of Manhattan College, where he earned degrees in Accounting and Finance and served as Valedictorian of his class.

He credits his work ethic and sense of duty to his family and upbringing. In one of his final conversations with his father, just five days before his passing, he shared the words that continue to guide Mike’s public service:

“Michael, to whom much is given, much is required. You’ve been given a lot of talents and skills. Use them to do God’s work and to always keep your moral compass.”

Mike lives in Pearl River with his wife, Doina, and their daughters, Julianna and Elizabeth.
