Meet Nick Begich
Nick Begich was born in Anchorage and raised with the values that define Alaska: work hard, tell the truth, chart your own course, and always remember the places, experiences, and people who shaped you. Those values guide him today as he and his wife, Dharna, raise their son, Nicholas, with a deep respect for Alaska's way of life and a commitment to service.
Before running for Congress
Before running for Congress, Nick built his career outside of politics. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Entrepreneurship from Baylor University and an MBA from Indiana University, then went to work for Ford Motor Company, where he gained experience in technology, finance, and product development. But Alaska was calling. In 2004, Nick returned to the state, started and built successful businesses, mentored entrepreneurs, and helped turn ideas into opportunity.
In Congress
Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2024, Nick went to Washington to fight for Alaska. He is focused on unlocking Alaska's resources, lowering costs for working families, creating Alaska jobs, protecting our communities, and making sure that as Alaskans we have the freedom to chart our own course.
Committee service
In Congress, Nick serves on three committees with direct impact on Alaska's future: On the House Committee on Natural Resources, he serves as Vice Chair of the Energy and Mineral Resources Subcommittee, where he is fighting to responsibly develop Alaska's vast energy and mineral resources. On the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, he serves as Vice Chair of the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials, working to strengthen the infrastructure that connects Alaska's communities and supports our economy. On the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, he is advancing Alaska's role in Arctic research, energy innovation, national security, and emerging technologies.
Congressional Western Caucus
Nick also serves as Executive Vice Chair of the Congressional Western Caucus, giving Alaska a stronger voice in the national fight for land access, resource development, energy security, and the rights of Western states.
What Nick did not go to Congress to do
Nick did not go to Congress to manage decline. He went to fight for growth, opportunity, and self-determination for our state and the nation.
Members of the House are responsible for introducing and voting on federal legislation, representing the interests of their constituents, and providing oversight of the executive branch. Key powers include drafting bills, serving on committees, approving the federal budget, and voting on matters of national policy, including declarations of war and presidential impeachments.
