This bill makes it easier for people on Medicare to get supplemental insurance by preventing discrimination based on health issues. It ensures that everyone can access necessary coverage without unfair barriers.
Close the Medigap Act of 2025This bill (1) expands guaranteed issue rights with respect to Medigap policies (Medicare supplemental health insurance policies), (2) eliminates certain limitations on Medigap policies for newly eligible Medicare beneficiaries, and (3) modifies other provisions related to Medigap policies. (Guaranteed issue rights require that a policy be offered to any eligible applicant without regard to health status.)
1. This bill prevents insurance companies from denying coverage based on health status or medical conditions. 2. It eliminates waiting periods for preexisting conditions in Medicare supplemental policies. 3. Insurance providers cannot increase premiums based on genetic information. 4. The bill requires an outreach plan to inform eligible individuals about these changes. 5. These changes will take effect starting January 1, 2026.
