ABOUT ERIN HOUCHIN
Erin Houchin was born and raised in Indiana’s 9th District, and is a proud lifelong Hoosier.
Growing up in Scottsburg as the daughter of a local dentist, the strong conservative values of personal responsibility and hard work were instilled in Erin at an early age, but she first became politically active as an intern with the Indiana State Senate while a student at Indiana University. There, she met her husband, and realized her passion for public service.
After college, Erin went on to work in various state and federal government roles, including as a Family Case Manager for the Department of Child Services, and as Southeast Indiana Regional Director for then U.S. Senator Dan Coats, where she worked with individuals, organizations, and businesses throughout southern Indiana.
In 2014, Erin defeated a powerful 26-year incumbent Democrat and was elected to the Indiana State Senate, where she served until 2022. She quickly and consistently proved herself as a strong conservative fighter as she passed legislation to protect the unborn, defend the Second Amendment, and support law enforcement. She supported Indiana’s Balanced Budget Amendment, aggressively fought tax increases, expanded broadband access in rural areas, improved educational opportunities for children, and authored legislation to make Indiana a Constitutional Carry state.
While her career path has taken twists and turns, the common thread in every role is service. Service to her family as a stay-at-home mom; service to her local community and church through volunteer efforts, and now, service to Indiana's 9th District as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
She has the experience and energy we need in Washington to push back against the radical Biden-Pelosi-Schumer Agenda, fight against runaway spending causing record inflation and uncontrolled debt, secure our border, and keep our country safe and secure.
A proud alumna of Indiana University in Bloomington, Erin also holds a master’s degree in political management from The George Washington University, was a Governor's appointee to the Indiana Commission for Women, and has held numerous leadership positions in the Republican Party.
She serves on the House Energy & Commerce, Budget, and Rules Committees, and lives in Salem with her husband, Dustin, and their three children.
Members of the U.S. House of Representatives write and vote on federal laws, including the federal budget. Each represents one district and serves a two-year term. Tax bills must start in the House, only the House can impeach federal officials, and members oversee federal agencies through their committees.
