Meet Jared Moskowitz
Jared Moskowitz was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2022 and re-elected in 2024, earning the trust of voters with his record of action, bipartisan leadership, and crisis-tested experience. From the state legislature to the floor of Congress, he’s built his career on showing up, getting results, and putting people ahead of politics.
Since arriving in Congress, Jared has quickly built a reputation as a principled, independent voice—willing to work across the aisle to deliver for his constituents while holding government accountable. His sharp, direct style has made him a standout advocate for transparency, public safety, support for America’s allies, and confronting rising antisemitism and extremism. That commitment to public service and results-driven leadership has defined Jared’s career from the very beginning.
Jared Moskowitz was born and raised in Broward County and is a proud graduate of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. From a young age, he was shaped by a deep commitment to public service and Democratic values, inspired by his father’s work as a Democratic Party Committeeman. Following his father’s passing from pancreatic cancer, Jared has continued to honor his legacy through a life dedicated to service and results-driven leadership.
Jared pursued his passion for politics and policy at The George Washington University, where he earned a degree in political science with a focus on public policy, before completing his law degree at Nova Southeastern University.
While in college, Jared interned for Vice President Al Gore, an experience that deepened his understanding of government and motivated him to become further engaged in public service. He worked on several Democratic campaigns and served as one of Florida’s electors for Barack Obama in 2008.
His public service began early — Jared was elected to the Parkland City Commission while still in law school. During his six-year tenure, he championed public safety and environmental initiatives, including one of the state’s first local bans on texting while driving.
In 2012, Jared was elected to the Florida House of Representatives. During his six years in the Legislature, he earned a reputation as a pragmatic, bipartisan problem solver. He championed legislation to make schools safer, promote climate resiliency, protect animals, support the State of Israel, and reform aspects of Florida’s criminal justice system.
After the tragic 2018 mass shooting at his alma mater, Jared became a leading advocate for gun safety and mental health reform. He played a key role in crafting and passing the bipartisan Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act, Florida’s most comprehensive school safety and gun violence prevention legislation. He remains a trusted partner to many of the families affected by the tragedy.
In 2019, Jared was appointed by Republican Governor Ron DeSantis to serve as Director of Florida’s Division of Emergency Management, a rare bipartisan move that earned praise across party lines. Jared led the state’s response to multiple hurricanes and was at the forefront of Florida’s COVID-19 response: setting up testing sites, designing vaccine distribution systems, delivering millions of meals, and ensuring underserved communities had access to lifesaving resources. His leadership helped save countless lives.
Following his state-level service, Jared was appointed to the Broward County Commission, where he focused on infrastructure, affordability, public safety, and transportation.
In 2022, Jared Moskowitz was elected to Congress, succeeding Congressman Ted Deutch. In Congress, he serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where he is the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Accountability, which oversees the State Department’s Office of Inspector General and its intelligence and research functions. He also serves on the Subcommittee on East Asia, the Pacific, and the Indo-Pacific, where he helps shape U.S. policy toward one of the most strategically important regions in the world. Jared has led on key foreign policy issues, including America’s unwavering support for Israel, backing Ukraine in the face of Russia’s unprovoked war, and strengthening diplomatic ties throughout the Western Hemisphere.
Jared also serves on the House Judiciary Committee, where he focuses on civil rights, justice reform, and addressing gun violence. He is a co-founder of the Bipartisan Disaster Preparedness Caucus, using his emergency management experience to improve federal readiness and response to natural disasters. He also helped launch the Bipartisan School Safety and Security Caucus, working across the aisle to promote evidence-based policies that keep students and educators safe. In addition, Jared co-founded the Sneaker Caucus, a creative effort to bridge culture and politics while engaging younger Americans in the democratic process. Through each of these efforts, he brings a results-driven, pragmatic approach to governing, always focused on keeping people safe and delivering for his community.
Jared and his wife Leah live in Broward County with their two sons. From local government to Congress, Jared Moskowitz has always put people over politics, bringing a results-focused, bipartisan mindset to every role he’s held. His lifetime of public service continues to shape his work as a strong, effective advocate for South Florida families.
Members of the U.S. House of Representatives write and vote on federal laws, including the federal budget. Each represents one district and serves a two-year term. Tax bills must start in the House, only the House can impeach federal officials, and members oversee federal agencies through their committees.
