About Lois Frankel

Meet Lois

Lois Frankel is an experienced public servant with a strong record of protecting our Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, bringing down costs for families, and defending our democracy. After serving 14 years in the Florida state legislature, including as the first woman Democratic Minority Leader, Lois became Mayor of West Palm Beach in 2003, where she served for eight years.

She is the first woman to represent Florida's 22nd congressional district and has been representing Palm Beach County since being elected in 2013. Lois founded and chaired the Democratic Women's Caucus, and now serves at Chair Emerita, bringing women's issues to the forefront of all policy decisions.

About Lois

Congresswoman Lois Frankel has fought for change since her days as a student protester in the 1960s.

She has been a community and civic leader, state legislator, mayor, and now is privileged to serve as a Member of Congress in the US House of Representatives.

In 2018, Lois was selected to serve on the powerful Appropriations Committee. She currently serves on the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Subcommittee and is the lead Democrat on the National Security and Department of State Subcommittee. Through her role on the committee, Lois has been fighting to stop Republican cuts to health care, Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid and has worked tirelessly to lower costs for families, protect our environment, and expand access to housing.

She has always been and continues to be a loud voice and leading force to improve the lives of children and families as well as seniors and veterans. Lois is a fierce advocate for racial justice, human rights and women’s reproductive freedom. She founded and chaired the Democratic Women’s Caucus, and now serves as Chair Emerita.

Lois is the proud mother to her son Ben, who is a United States Marine war veteran, and is known as “Lolo” by her grandsons. She is also an avid abstract painter who has a great appreciation for the arts.
