Congressman Scott Perry
Congressman for the 10th Congressional Dist.
Scott Perry brings a unique background of hard work, military discipline, small business, and community involvement to the U.S. House of Representatives. He earned the privilege of representing Pennsylvania’s 10th District (Dauphin, part Cumberland, part York Counties), and presently serves on the U.S. House Committees on Transportation & Infrastructure, Foreign Affairs, Oversight & Accountability, and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He’s also a member and former Chairman of the House Freedom Caucus.
Perry served three terms in Harrisburg as a Pennsylvania State Representative, where he established a record for protecting Constitutional and Taxpayer rights.
Perry knows the importance of hard work and dedication. He’s the grandson of Colombian immigrants, and the son of a single mom who fled abuse and worked several jobs to survive and support her children – with whom she first landed in Harrisburg on Berryhill Street. Scott was raised on public assistance in his youth, in a spartan home with no electricity or plumbing, bathed in a steel tub on the porch, pumped water from a well, and cut firewood with his older brother to keep the family warm in winter.
At age 13, Perry started his first job – picking fruit at a local farm in Mechanicsburg. Since then, he’s worked as a mechanic, dock worker, draftsman and a licensed insurance agent. He’s a 1980 graduate of Northern High School and the Cumberland-Perry Vo-Tech School. He put himself through college while working full-time, and graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 1991, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration Management. In 1993, Perry and his mom started their own mechanical contracting firm (initially in their garage). The Dillsburg-based business provided contract construction / maintenance services to municipal and investor-owned utilities from North Carolina to New York, and specialized in large meter calibration.
Perry enlisted in the Army in 1980, attending basic training at Fort Dix, NJ, and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Belvoir, VA as a technical drafting specialist. After graduating as president of his Officer Candidate School class, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in Field Artillery. He branch-transferred to Army Aviation, where he eventually earned qualifications in almost every airframe in the Army’s rotary wing inventory (Huey, Cayuse, Kiowa, Cobra, Chinook, Apache, and Blackhawk), became a rated Instructor Pilot, and earned the Master Army Aviator Badge. He’s commanded at the company, battalion and brigade levels; most notably, then-Lieutenant Colonel Perry commanded the 2-104th Aviation Battalion, which deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom, during which he flew 44 combat missions and earned the Bronze Star Medal. Shortly after returning home, he was selected to attend the prestigious U.S. Army War College, from which he earned a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies. Perry ultimately earned promotion to the rank of Brigadier General, and upon retirement, honorably completed nearly 40 years of military service to our Nation.
Perry’s service to our his communities has included chairman of the Carroll Township Planning Commission and member of the township Source Water Protection Committee. He was chairman of the Dillsburg Area Wellhead Protection Advisory Committee and served on the Dillsburg Revitalization Committee. He remains active in the Jaycees and previously served as regional director. He’s a member of Dillsburg American Legion Post #26, Dillsburg VFW Post #6771, and is a Lions Club International Member.
Scott and his wife, Christy, are the proud parents of two daughters.
Members of the U.S. House of Representatives write and vote on federal laws, including the federal budget. Each represents one district and serves a two-year term. Tax bills must start in the House, only the House can impeach federal officials, and members oversee federal agencies through their committees.
